         I didn't either.  I was a small child when we visited my
uncle at his estate (there is no other appropriate word) in Chicago
Heights, Illinois.  He had a white Cord convertible and was eager
to show it off.  He allowed me to ride in the front seat while my
parents sat in the back seat, and he explained (and demonstrated)
how the shift worked.
         It was quite an experience for a little kid.
