If TCP/IP is enabled then NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled by default. =
It can be disabled from the advanced TCP/IP settings on the WINS tab.
PING is enabled by default. On Windows XP with the firewall enabled =
PING will be disabled. You can test name resolution simply by trying =
PING machinename. If it comes back with an IP address then name =
resolution works regardless of whether or not the PING succeeds.

Rich,
They have the same Workgroup names.
Where on NT and on WXP does one set them to use NetBIOS over TCP/IP?
Under NT the Protocols page just shows NetBEUI Protocol and TCP/IP =
Protocol. Is that=20
enough for the NT machine to be able to do sharing with the WXP =
machine?
Do NT and WXP machines have the ability to respond to Ping enabled by =
default?
