Dear Valerie,
What i suspect you are talking about is tole painting. This is a method
of combining a few basic brush
strokes to make an unlimited nunber of 'simple
line' pictures. This is often done on metal with acrilic paints, but
neither is a limitation. Its first cousin is rosemauling, which you may
have heard of.
Tole painting is a lot of fun, but the larger brushes are unreasonably
expensive $12- $20. The best book i can think of is 'You Too Can Tole".
