subject: Newsgroup (NG) digests

Hi! Richard,

On 19 Apr 09 19:31, you wrote to me:

I used to rely on a German feller (I think) who ran a service at
www.news2mail.com, but the web server doesn't respond any more. The link
'pings' okay, so he may get it running again. His server used to dump
reams of Apache error logs over the last few months, since the ISP/news
distribution shake-up, so, I wasn't surprised when his service went
belly-up. It was nice for a while getting one-for-one NG posts in email.

Now I'm using Google Groups but they only distribute digests in email. :(

Yeah. I've been lucky in the past as I've been picking moderated (usually
rules against mime-attaches or HTML) or source read-only newsgroups (NASA).

PQ>> Has anyone tried this process yet? Or, anything similar perhaps?

I like the way you think. ;-)

RW> I'm using postit to post these to my squish bases as
RW> echomail, but have used other autoposters.

I usually use the one that came with FastEcho, mostly for daily logfile
posts, but I do favour a doo-hickey called "Mpost" that has some
unique features. I use it all the time for automated weekly nodelist FREQs
to the RC13 (Mike Luko in New Jersey) and for auto-reply posts to my NCs
when they submit their weekly nodelist segments. :-)

Cool.

Okay. Mmm... I use a special email address and a Fido email handler called
"Transnet" (which has its own Fido address) to do that sort of
thing. (It currently does the NG digests but as I've said that method is
limited by the JAM storage problem due to the length of the consoidated
posts.) I don't see the posts till I browse my local echo.

Time to pull out some munchies...

Ahh, yes. I had a similar idea for mine; I had in mind to create an index
of "From:" line numbers, and then run from that. Great minds...
and all that. :) Nah, I figure the only =exotic= software I'll need is
fgrep. My current toolbox of (mostly Horst's) utils will do nicely,
besides.

RW> HOpe that helps you out.

Sure did. It means I'm on the right track. Thanks for your insights.

Cheers,
Paul.

... Why can't life be menu driven or at least have an 'undo' feature?
