Dynamat is a remarkable, but expensive product for mobile
applications. I have also seen it sandwiched between two layers of MDF for
home stereo applications, but was a little disappointed with the results in
that usage. I also tried using it as an internal damping material in building
a three-way speaker system for the home and cannot rec' it for that use. It
sounded awful! But, for mobile apps, I haven't seen anything even remotely
like it. My youngest son took a very small strip and placed it on one of my
wifes crystal glasses, then struck it with the edge of a heavy spoon. Instead
of the long, sharp, distinct ringing that we would normally get, we instead
got a light "thump". Now that is extraordinary!
My son advises that vehicle doors, trunk lids and walls, and hoods
can all benefit from its' usage. He has lined the roof and front floor of his
vehicle with it also. It has made a remarkable difference in quieting down
the interior from road noise/sounds, as well as calming vibrations from his
sound system.
One other tidbit he has offered. There are a couple products on the
market that look like the same product and make some pretty wild claims. He
advises that you ONLY use the actual Dynamat product. The competition doesn't
cut it, yet.
Cheers, John
