Until Ringo actually began composing his own tunes, John and Paul would
indeed write a track for him to sing...sometimes two on the earlier albums.
 
"Don't Pass Me By" was really the first time that Ringo ever branched out
completely...
 
"What Goes On" doesn't really count, since it was mostly written by John and
Paul.  I'm not even sure what Ringo's contribution is on that song.  "Flying"
is the only other song I can think of with Ringo getting a credit, and it's
an instrumental, until "Don't Pass Me By".
 
... Better the four-wheel drive, the farther out you get stuck.
