Just so there is no doubt in anyone's mind about the proper
procedure...
BW>So, what's the correct procedure? One run down the runway to to
BW>windmill the engine enough to get the prop to feather, then another
BW>run for a single engine takeoff, and a restart in the air?
No, the correct procedure is to call your destination and tell them
your problem and that you won't be there as scheduled. Next thing is to
tell the passengers what the problem is and what you are going to do
about it. Next contact a QUALIFIED mechanic to take a look to find out
what the problem is and fix it and sign it off.
BW>I suppose it isn't even covered in the pilot's handbook.
BW>How's a guy to know the the right way to do it?
No Bill it's not covered in the Pilot's Handbook because it is not an
authorized procedure. There are exceptions in Air Carrier operations
for 3 and 4 engine aircraft. The Pilot must be qualified to ferry.
There must be minimum crew for flight on board and it must be approved
as a test flight/ferry and a ferry permit obtained from the FAA or in
house approval if all parameters are met....Jim....
