I guess you're referring to the above paragraph?  In the case of the mac,
you're definitely locked into doing things their way,  but it also seems
that the most recent version of what they're offering for an OS has linux
underneath,  so I'm not real sure about them.

I do know that my brother,  who's a self-described "GUI kinda
guy" also has one or more macs.  And that the couple of times I've
messed with them (not recently) the UI felt more like it was getting in my
way than helping me do anything.
