I wouldn't mind betting that the cheap Zoom was an RPI modem, and that you
made a very wise choice by not buying it.

True, some don't, but the imported USRs sure do (and the Courier doesn't
misinterpret the STD pips as a BUSY tone, like the Sportster did).
