Brenton, at 21:17 on May 15 1996, you wrote to Paul Edwards... BV> Who from ? In all seriousness, Banksia would be best of the local stuff. BV> To the best of my knowledge, all the local stuff use the Rockwell BV> chipset and Banksia are the only ones who rewrite *all* the code. I visited the PC show yesterday, and what an eye-opener! The low-end Banksia V.34 is a Rockwell, but their two high-end models are both rebadges (Motorola Lifestyle V.34, and the Microcom Deskporte Fast+ at $1097). BV> Probably because the Vipers are fucked, as are *all* Spirit modems. Seems the Viper is one of only two V.34 modems which use the 8-bit Rockwell R6682-26 data pump, instead of the more common 16-bit RC288dpi. Sure speaks volumes for its quality. BV> Why bother ? You know the Viper is fucked. You know that MBE are fucked. BV> You know that Netcomm are fucked. Why are you doing this to yourself ? BV> Are you a masochist as well as an idiot ? Just buy a Banksia. They work. So do USRs, and Microcoms, and Motorolas, and AT&Ts, and Hayes...
