And what do you think about Seagate's "OS-independent" diagnostic
tool?

About 3 weeks ago I D/Led from Seagate's site their SeaTools, in order
to check a hard disk. To do this I had to register mylself with them. A
little after that, I got a message from them, from which a small part is
quoted below:

QUOTE

Seagate Technology has made a commitment to you, our customer, to provide
the best diagnostic services in the industry. In an effort to
continuously improve our software and customer support, we would
appreciate your response to a few questions about the diagnostic software
you received. Please take a few moments to fill out our survey form by
clicking on the link at the bottom of this message (or by copying it and
pasting it into your browser):

and these are my comments to them:

In your website it is stated that SeaTools is OS independent. This is
true, from the moment that the floppy disks are created. But, to create
them, one needs to have one Win box. If you don't use Windows, as is my
case, you have to look for something that allows you the diskettes'
creation, be it somebody else's Win box, be it some kind of Win
"emulator". If you're in a hurry, this certainly * IS * a serious issue
to be taken into account. Furthermore, this make the diskette creator
bulkier than it need be, due to the graphical interface.

BTW, the "OS-independent" part of it is a pair of DOS floppy disks,
one bootable, and the other one with the diagnostic tool.
