JT>Kathy, they showed it here twice- PBS does a lot of repeats. Maybe you
JT>can catch a rerun.
True, but that'd mean I'd have to read the tv guide... I tend to
ignore tv until somebody *tells* me about something good coming up.
>One of my favorite parts showed the thick billed
JT>parrots they are raising and trying to release in the Chiricahua Mts. in
JT>Arizona. It seems that parrots learn more of their behaviors than once
JT>thought, and they are having huge problems with the survival of
JT>domestically raised birds. The wild caught are faring much better.
I had read something about that too--the domestic raised birds had a
harder time unlearning their captive behaviors, and were mostly
either getting picked off by hawks or starving. That's sad...I hope
some of the re-released wild caughts reproduce soon, and get a 2nd
generation going out there.
What the researchers might be able to do then is to add a very young
domestic hatched chick or an egg to the wild nests as they raise their
own clutch. It's a thought...
