Paul, at 23:41 on May 16 1996, you wrote to Bill Grimsley...

Not quite, Paul. That was in the days of our both running V.32bis, when
almost every other 14k4 modem was better than the Spirit II.

PE> I did that.

No you didn't. You replaced it with a V.34 modem (or modems). That was
the time I'd suggested that the Courier was the best choice in V.34 modems
too. You've either mangled the sequence, or you're being intentionally
difficult.

Stick with the M34F then. At least it has a 16-bit data pump, and the
ability to flash new firmware to the ROM if the need arises. And if you're
really lucky, maybe you can get the NetComm's adaptive answer to work as
well. :)

BG> Why don't you simply buy a modem which works, then LEAVE IT ALONE ???

PE> I don't know of one, otherwise I would.

USR Courier, port to 57600, init with AT&F1&W, reset with ATZ.
What could be easier than that?

What a pity you still have these Austel hangups, as my Mastercard statement
arrrived yesterday, and the US$249 (plus US$50 shipping) converted to a
total of A$379.56, the same price you'd pay on their sysop deal. Oh
well...

Regards, Bill
