subject: 14.4 or 28.8k modem Wanted

Hi Grant,

GB>Tell me what mains voltage has to do with:

GB>a) An internal modem that never _ever_ sees mains voltage.
(not a great deal assuming nothing goes wrong :)

GB>b) An external modem that uses a power pack.
AS long as nothing goes wrong with the externl power pack....

PS> nope, safety is part of the testing

GB>What is unsafe about using a modem? Do you really think that a modem
GB>would get an FCC approval if it wasn't safe to use it?? I doubt it.
What is safe in one country *may* not be safe in another....

GB>> the FCC are slightly more powerful than Austel.
 PS> Not is Australia they aren't :)

GB>I mentioned no countries. The FCC are more powerful and more important
GB>than Austel. Period.

I did mention a country (after all, we are talking about *Australian*
approved modems) and the FCC are not more powerful than Austel in
Australia....ie: a modem with FCC approval may not meet Austel
requirements....

  cya later,

           Paul.
