My cdrom drive has suddenly stopped being able to read data disks. I
can still play music cd's ok. Data disks give sys0039 drive not ready.

The cdrom fits in a bay in my late 90's laptop, so there are no cables
to check. I suspect there is some problem with the mechanism, but
that's only a guess. I used a lens cleaner on the drive, but that
didn't help.

Is this drive a dead 'un? Any tweaks that might revive it?

Thanks.
