PE> OS/2 3.0 has an internal error, and I was unable to get past it. OS/2
PE> 2.1 does not have the error, and I am running with it.

db> What's the bug?

Trap-D in device driver singleq$

PE> I have done a chkdsk on the E drive, and also, whilst the trapping was
PE> happening, I attempted to install on the E drive (OS/2 3.0), but I didn't
PE> succeed, got some stupid error about a 33 meg file or something.

db> Ouch. This is why I have a separate boot partition (HPFS, OS/2 2.11), just
db> in case things go awry with my regular startup partition (HPFS, OS/2 3.0).
db> Boot from floppies, so you're not using the hard disk at all. Then, run
db> "CHKDSK E: /F:2" - following this, run "CHKDSK
E:". Repeat cycle until
db> any/all errors disappear.

No errors other than "no root directory, will try anyway".

db> After the CHKDSK cycling, see if you can *carefully* wander through the
db> directory structure - say, "DIR E:\ /A /S /-P" .. then
copy stuff off the
db> drive so somewhere else, reformat and rebuild. It's the only way to be
db> "absolutely sure", as opposed to "pretty sure".

There isn't a single sausage.

db> Hmmm .. you may like to crashmail Chris Graham (3:632/344) in Victoria, as
db> he's got all the low-down on the HPFS format and has experience with
db> recovering files from "trashed" HPFS partitions.

Thankyou. BFN. Paul.
