W32S125B.ZIP 16-Oct-95 18:52 13470
Contains:
VW32S.SYS 16-Oct-95 18:52 15073
WIN32S.LIC 16-Oct-95 18:49 3470
WIN32S.PKG 16-Oct-95 18:47 1540
WIN32S.TXT 16-Oct-95 18:50 5573
I replaced C:\OS2\MDOS\VW32S.SYS to upgrade from version A to B.

AFAIK the larger file contains the full library. Which may NOT be
necessary, depending on what app you are going to install.
Many CD sized apps for Win95 also have that library on them and
automatically try to install or update any older version of the
library files. Sometimes that works, such as with the older
DeLorme CD apps. In at least 1 case TaxCut97 (??) overwrote a good
working library and replaced it with a library that would only work
for that 1 app. I had to reinstall when I finished using that app.
I do have a large file which probably includes the full library:
---
W32S125.Exe 03-08-96 2,287,298
Win32s v1.25 update. Apply to Win-OS/2, then download and
follow instructions in vw32s125.zip.
---
That includes:
INSTALL.BAT 10-Jan-95 16:33 19
W32SPACK.EXE 28-Feb-95 16:38 2282547
Install.Bat says: w32spack.exe -d
Running that creates 2 subdirectories named DISK1 and DISK2.
DISK1 contains 75 files including SETUP.EXE _MSSETUP.EXE _MSTEST.EXE
DISK2 contains 19 files. Both directories have a lot of *.DLL
files.
As I mentioned in a previous msg, some Win95 apps will not run under
Win-OS2 if you have any version of MS Windows installed on your HD.
Win95 apps that require Win32s v.1.30 may not run under OS/2 at all.
But it has been suggested that if the app will install, then let it
try to do so. But stop before running the app and RE-replace Win32s
v.1.25 and then run the app for the 1st time.
Some of the MS written Install.Exe for 3rd-party apps have been
known to contain seek'n'destroy code aimed at any non-MS OS. So be
prepared to completely reinstall OS/2. Maybe dozens of times.
In some cases it is possible to bypass the MS written Install.Exe.
That involves manually making the directories on your HD with the
name the app expects and manually copying the apps *.EXE and some
support files from the CD to your HD. Then make a Win-OS2 object
for the apps *.EXE. And you may have to change some of the Win-OS2
Session settings such as Properties "3.1 Enhanced Compatibility".
For over a year I fought with various Win32s installs. Some were a
success. But when developers started releasing apps that required
v.1.30 and none of the above tricks would work, I came up with my
present configuration. I have Win95 installed on my old 486. I
have Warp4 installed on my P200i. I have a couple of A/B switches
that let me select either of those machines with only 1 monitor,
keyboard, trackball and printer.
But the best solution of all is to use native OS/2 apps.
Thanks and Good Luck, Andy Roberts
