It was not just the tagline, it was the body of the message. And yes,
DROP IT!
Goddamnit you fool, there will be ABSOLUTELY NO TALK, EVEN WHEN IT IS
OBVIOUSLY IN JEST of shooting, or in any way physically harming, public
officials!  And being a regular or a long-timer in this conference
will cut you NO slack in that regard.
You guys started out by talking of getting Schumer out of office; that's
fine.  But it went too far.  This is not the corner bar, or a private
club.  What you say here goes through NSA computers.  What you say here
gets printed out by cops and cop-wannabes and put on cops' desks, and
politicians' desks, and newspaper editors' desks.  What you say here is
read by federal employees, some of whom have no love of the average
american gun owner.  What you say here gets read by zealous people just
aching to find some kind of plot, so they can be a hero by preventing
the next Oklahoma City bombing.  What you say here gets printed out by
all kinds of toadies who take the messages and show them to others
who they toady up to, saying "Look what these people are going to do!"
I once gave this same kind of warning to someone in a local-only
conference and people ridiculed my admonition.  But a couple weeks
later, the person who I admonished told me that he was called into his
boss's office (he worked for gov't) and given a piece of paper with his
message on it, and was asked "Did you write that?" by his boss.
Someone else on the local BBS scene made an INDIRECT remark about
Hillary Clinton (you had to thread backwards to see who he was referring
to), and because some junior-G-man-wannabe turned the message over to
the Secret Service, the SS agents were required to investigate.  Not
only did he get visited by humorless men wearing suits and sunglasses,
but the person to whom he wrote the message, and several other people
on the BBS.
Now YOU may be willing to subject yourself to government and media
scrutiny for your statements, but one thing the government and media
love to do is ascribe guilt by association.  So don't do it here.
If you feel you must reply, DO NOT reply publicly to this message.  Take
it netmail if you feel you have to reply.
