We read in "Pass It On", on page 370:
        "Bill first took LSD in California, under the guidance of Gerald
         Heard."
(Doctors told me it was OK to take alcohol - "It's a natural
tranquilizer." and then prescribed valium and lithium! Unfortunately,
like Bill W, I listened to the doctors also.)
Page 371, we read of "Pusher Bill" wanted company:
        "He invited many of his closest associates to join him in the
         experience."
Included in the "experiments" were Father Dowling, and Sam Shoemaker,
and Bill's wife, Lois!
Page 376:
        "By 1959, Bill had personally withdrawn from the
         LSD experiments. He and Dr. Jack had had some
         corrspondence on the subject of Bill's responsibility
         as a living founder..."
And so, Bill was "sober" long before he got "clean".
Remember this when "cross addicted" people come to AA and mention other
substances "only in passing".  Bill W. used & talked about it for 5
years (1954-59).
