I just use FORTRAN for arithmetic, with the results printed as characters. If I were plotting graphs I would use PL/I and PM. Indeed, I tend to use PL/I more than FORTRAN for my own use. The main thing FORTRAN has is that it runs FAPI, so the one .EXE can run under DOS or OS/2. This is handy for writing code for the great unwashed (i.e. DOS users).
