The card is probably fine. I'm sure eCS uses whatever version of
aic7870.add IBM provides as the default with the MCP base code. It
appears that this version of the driver does not play well with your
hardware.
>I assume that the problem lies with ECS and v1.1. Are they addressing

A couple of comments. The problem is not eCS. The problem is eCS and
your specific hardware combo. This is a very different thing. The
installer allows you to replace the failing aic7870 driver with one that
works with your hardware. The process is documented.
Did you file a bug report on the eComStation bug tracker? If nothing
else, this will document the problem for others.
>Why SIO2K would be a problem, I don't know but can live with COM.SYS
>okay.
It's not compatible with your specific hardware. There's a reason the eCS
installer preboot screen allows specific drivers to be chosen.
FWIW, the version of SIO2K that ships with eCS is a bit older than the
current shareware version. It's always possible that the current version
of SIO2K corrects whatever problem the other version had.
>With the card re-installed, ECS still boots but without the SCSI drive.
>Can I now install the scsi driver?
Probably, as long as you use the aic7870.add that used to work rather than
the one eCS supplies.
>Can SIO2k now be installed, since ECS boots up?
You could try the current version at www.gwinn.com.
>I know, questions, questions, questions.
Questions are good. Just keep in mind that eCS is never going to be
compatible with every hardware combo, out of the box. Swapping drivers is
a fact of life with eCS just as it is with OS/2. I doubt this is going to
change in the near future.

Steven
