Inver' and 'Inis' are Gaelic, but maybe 'inis' means 'island' (in Welsh it
would be 'ynys'..) and maybe 'Inver' is similar to 'aber', i.e. mouth of a
river, or an estuary.. (But don't take my word for these! :-)

My suggestion is to dig through a repair manual and get the "check engine"
light to flash the trouble codes, or buy/borrow/steal a "scan tool" and go
through the engine computer to find out what is wrong. Or as a last resort
take it to the Ford dealer and have them look at it.
I don't think a bad EGR valve would do that, more than anything if it were
stuck open it would cause the engine to stall. Or if it were stuck closed
the engine would (should) run just fine. These are both generalaties of
 course.
One thing I remember about my father's Ford Bronco (351 engine) was that
parts for it were not cheap. I would want to know exactly what was wrong
before I started replacing parts that do not need it. The O2 sensor was $71
 itself.
