One problem I have noted about such lanes is that they are generally only
on one side of the road. If you ride a bike with traffic it is no problem,
but against it can be. Here in the US, where we drive on the right side of
the road, people are used to looking to the left when they make a right
turn onto the main road, but no so used to looking to the right where an
oncoming bicycle might be in that lane. I presume in areas where they
drive on the left the opposite would be true.
