That rather depends on how someone has setup the modem doent it? like is
%E1 set or not? If the speed has been forced to max in order to try to
get the best poss speed from the word go, then methinks the modem will
just keep on trying at that rate until the line quality gets too bad to
continue.. and it drops carrier.
