We go out on the bike when there is a extra guy assigned to patrol and this
year we we be getting overtime to patrol.
The International Police Mountain Bike Assoc. has instructors all over
the country. I called them and got setup in the course. The course is
GREAT! Most of the focus is controlling the bike. Sounds simple but...
what kind of bike are you using? We are very pleased with the Raleigh F-500,
real nice package for the price. Ya just gotta watch the brakes. It sports
the new V brakes. They are VERY powerful! Does your department have any
SOP's for bike patrol? If so I'd like to hear about them.

-> I started up a bike squad last summer for the Brazoria Police
-> Department. There are only three officers involved. We only
-> use the bikes for special functions like our summer festivals
-> and parades. We also participate as a team in the local century
-> rides. No of us are certified as BPO's yet. I've been receiving
-> literature on a 40 hour certification course that is put on in
-> Dallas but haven't been able to attend yet. Maybe this year.
