Star Trek has always been about believability and consistency. The
Neutral Zone has always been described as distant from Earth. In TOS it
took days even for a subspace message to make the trip from the Neutral
Zone to the nearest command base. At Warp Nine, even Alpha Centauri is
hours away. Given all of Star Trek continuity to date, the Neutral Zone
and Earth are at the very least many hours travel apart, if not days.
A starship could not travel the distance in a few minutes. That back
continuity, combined with the statements in the movie about where the
initial batle with the Borg ship was fought -- not Earth -- makes clear
that two different battles were involved.

Sorry, did not.
You can't *both* ignore the details, as your message said you do, and
brush aside observations based on those details. :-)

I don't particularly care for the "it's science fiction so it doesn't
have to make sense" mindset. Having been a participant in this Echo
since 1989, and for the last couple of years being a Vice Modertor, I
can tell you that a large part of what this Echo has been about over the
years is rationalization of apparent inconsistencies.
