Rod, at 14:58 on May 26 1996, you wrote to Bill Grimsley...
PE> We don't know how the Banksia performs under proper testing. We
PE> know it has trouble talking to Viper's in adaptive answer though.
BG> ROFL! So does everybody else's modem, Paul.
RS> Poor old Bill.
BG> Better get your "facts" right, Rod.
RS> Odd, cant see a single 'fact' mentioned by me at all so far Bill.
The implication was there.
BG> You quite sure you are still taking your medication ?
Of course. My next cone is due at 8pm. :)
BG> Dave Begley and John Tserkezis have also since
BG> informed Paul of connect problems as well.
RS> Umm, Bill, I dont think that actually qualifys as "everybody
else's modem"
It sure doesn't qualify as none, either. Call it poetic licence, but the
fact is that a goodly proportion of Paul's points had diabolicals when the
Viper's AA was enabled.
RS> That is unless english is even more of a living language than I thought.
Or in your case, a decaying and mouldering language.
BG> Bear in mind also that the Viper did work
BG> for most of my calls, aside from those few.
RS> Still doesnt qualify as "everybody else's modem". Soorree.
^^^^^^^
Is that some new boong word you picked up while "socialising"? :)
PE> No, not everyone else's has. Ask Rod, Bob,
PE> Frank and everyone else apart from you two.
BG> Still missing the point completely.
RS> Still resorting to this pathetically mindless line of bullshit.
Don't tell me, Control-F2, right ?
BG> You'd be fucked if your macro file cross-linked itself, wouldn't you?
RS> Think the records stuck billy boy, try harder boy.
Jeeze, that's a new one. Buy a new extended keyboard, did we?
BG> Our modems can only ever react to the tones issued by
BG> YOUR modem FIRST, and they were wrong. Simple as that.
RS> Fraid not. You dont know that the Vipers tones are wrong. Poor old Bill.
BG> I actually listen to all of my connects,
RS> Well whoopy do.
Well that's a really intelligent comment, I don't think.
RS> Clearly the modems which dont have any trouble connecting to it dont
RS> actually agree that the tones are wrong tho.
Not when they connect as modems because the right tones had been issued on
those occasions. Christ you're thick.
BG> and if you don't believe that the Viper was issuing
BG> fax tones only, tough shit, that's your problem.
RS> Odd that some modems manage to connect fine anyway.
Not as modems, they didn't. The point is that the Viper DID somehow stick
in fax mode, and issued fax tones accordingly. Given that Bink recycles
the init every 10 minutes or so, I expect that one of them eventually reset
the modem correctly, but it was indeed fucked for several hours.
Regards, Bill
