VN> I remember a phrase from my U of A soils class: "A
VN>little bit of clay goes a LONG, LONG WAY!" I wonder if
VN>sand would improve the drainage.
VN> It's odd how an international echo changes your
VN>perspective on things; if you were in Phoenix, I would
VN>suggest you do what everyone here does if you need a lot of
VN>FREE sand - go down to the Salt River bottom and load up.
VN>The Salt River is DRY about 350 days out of the year
VN>because of the dams that they use for DROUGHT CONTROL more
VN>than flood control, the reason that water is still cheap
VN>and plentiful here in the Valley of the Sun. Maybe you
VN>have some dry washes in your area where you can get sand,
VN>or maybe a beach?
No beaches that I can ravage nearby, but there is some sandy soil at the
lower corner of my property. The problem lies in the fact that it is
downhill from the arena and the only way I have found to get it to the
arena is to shovel it into buckets and carry it up the hill and dump the
buckets in the arena. It gets quite tedious and I can only handle a few at
a time. But that is my current strategy. Ultimately, I'm going to get
some river sand delivered, but that'll come after necessities are taken
care of!
