>haven't identified (160.770).
That's probably used on former Milwaukee Road lines throuh Elgin, IL and
through Fox Lake, Libertyville and Roundout.
Metra probablly continues to use the former freight railroad frequencies
because Metra trains are merely using the tracks of UP, EJ&E, SOO, BNSF and
others.
>Meaning I probably couldn't pick them up, right? Anything interesting
>on Freddies?
Yes, they're hard to pick up unless you're very close to the tracks. A
"Freddie" sounds like a mixture of tones and static that lasts for maybe
three seconds. They're usually quiet, unless the engineman is working the
brakes and they're transmitting brake pipe pressure data from teh rear to the
locomotive. I've never lived in an area where the railroad uses radio
controlled pusher locomotives, but their frequency would be good for train
finding.
I'll see what I can find for Metra frequencies. Glad you're enjoying your
train listening. A year ago I found a cassette tape of Chicago area rail
scanner chatter I'd made in 1976. Gee -- so many transmissions from places
that are closed today, or unmanned or have changed names of ownership. Fun
to listen to, but kind of sad for a rail buff.
