I don't beleive at can be done (at least not as "easily" as you imply).
These drives were never designed for MFM capability so the "mimimum"
you'll have to do is add new controller circuitry, new decoding
circuits, plus the ROM routines..  In short you would be building a new
drive. Even then you are stuck with single sided disks.
