SR> I was channel surfing this evening and was suprised to find an
SR> episode of Star Trek, the Animated Series. I soon realized that the
voices
SR> were those of the actual TOS actors ( I had only seen the show once
before
SR> several years ago, in french). Does anyone know more about the series?
SR> When was it produced? Are TAS storylines taken in consideration in the
T
SR> history? Hope to hear from you.
TAS was a Saturday morning cartoon in 1973. Many of the stories are
downright bad, but a few are very, very good. Yesteryear, which is the
story of Spock's childhood, is a fine story.
In one episode, they create a giant 50 foot high clone of Spock. Yuck.
You will occasionally see TAS included in Star Trek timelines, but
Paramount does not include it. There are lots of things in it not seen
since, such as force field belts that allow the crew to walk on the
outside of spaceships in only their normal uniforms.
The animation techniques were fairly ordinary. The greatest legacy of
TAS is that it helped us get through the years between the end of TOS
and the premier of TMP.
