I would typically agree with you. We had some issues getting PXW & MBSE 
talking
 a few months back but eventually we discovered the correct settings on both
ends. Nothing more than an hour talking through the changes & discussing the
results. 

I know Joe Martin mentioned the oddity of connecting PXW & ViaMail-
still the PXW side creating the "non-standard" results. It seems the mailer
must be configured to PXW expectations more than anything else.
