In many ways, and with "my" ignorance, IP connections are as secure as
dial-up modem connections. As long as the sending Node and the
receiving Node have passwords in place, there is little chance of them
being "tapped".

Even in dial-up, there is a chance of "tapping". Let's assume that I
feed a node 1:100/100 and your address. If you put an aka in your
mailer of 1:100/100 and I don't have a password in place, you could
receive mail destined for 1:100/100.

That's probably not a good example.

In the IP world, as I understand it, Mail is not transfered until two
Nodes connect at a specific address with passwords that match. Until
that happens there is nothing but a request for a connection... much
the same as a phone ringing... until something (a modem) answers,
there is no connection and no transfer.

Frank
