Hi. I just got into hf-fax using a Soundblaster and the shareware prog
"Weatherman" (WXMAN). It'll only copy 120/576 faxes, but with my DX-440
(same as the 803a, 'cept for the missing jack(s)) I copy the USN & Can CG
stations quite well.
As you say, the BFO control works fine.. I usually tune it up for best
contrast.
Currently I'm running off a 300+ ft longwire, but I suspect that this is
overloading the rx a tad. Do you think a tuner is in order, or perhaps
chop the antenna shorter ?
Also, I'm trying to copy wefax from the VHF (137-138MHz) transmitting
sats (via a discone and Pro-2005). I can hear the tone fairly well when
the sat's in range, but the fax program only copies a black screen with
nice fuzzy borders. I can't hear any 'blips' in the tx so I'm wondering if
these sats transmit faxes all the time, only by sched or what ??
