Have you given some thought to having your films transferred to video?
At least that way you/we can enjoy them without fear of ruining the
original.

Agreed. Seems like every once in a while some railfans films from years gone
by come to light, and show a different segment of a railroad that most have
never seem before. Hopefully, this sort of thing will continue.
