Hi ld & Folks:
Sorry if when talking about the Beeman Laserization tune and the
Venomac Lazaglide tune in the same paragraph I confused anyone. BTW,
Jim Maccari has a tune called the UltraGlide tune but I know little
about it.
Anyway, keeping it short and sweet:
(1) Beeman Accurization/supertune: a standard moly tune. Had it done
on our Beeman R7, R1 and FWB124d at various times in the past....it's a
good idea to do and is the cheapest. No new "power", etc components
are installed. Power stays stock, the airarm is just better lubed and
generally more pleasant to use.
(2) Beeman Laserization tune: Moly/laserlube plus new parts (spring,
guide, seal and a spring in the trigger block) plus trigger tune. The
air transfer port is drilled out a bit on the inside ("chamfered").
The job done on all other Beeman R1's may have been wonderful. The
performance of my R1 after being Beeman shop laserized SUCKED.....I have
been spending a lot of time and money to get rid of it...even to the
extent of buying a brand new R1 receiver tube/end cap to gain back the
factory air transfer port. There, ld, how's that for unusual brevity
from me?
(3) Venomac Lazaglide tune: Moly/etc lube plus new parts (spring,
guides, seal, piston). Spring is much stronger/longer than stock.
Martin A has this tune in his Beeman .22 cal R1. Ask him how he likes
it. He will give you his experience as a user/owner.
Venomac quality and performance is unsurpassed by anyone else
that I know of. Venomac pays great attention to detail. Finish,
fit, etc all superb. Venomac is probably the very best "custom shop"
in England. Tim McMurray of Mac-1 is a good friend of Ivan Hancock,
Venomac. Contact Tim for more info. Tim is very, very experienced.
(4) Maccari UltraGlide tune: duh....I know little. Price in same
general range as Venomac & Beeman performance tunes (around $200).
Like Venomac Jim Maccari has less involved tunes (and less bucks of
course). Contact Jim Maccari for more info. He is honest, honorable,
skilled and gives good service for the bucks spent. Mr Maccari has
been in the airarm business for a very long time and invents airarm
products. IMO, he can do anything airarm-related.
Tom Gaylord's Beeman R1 book discusses the Beeman moly tune, Beeman
Laserization tune, the Maccari power springs, etc, and the Venom
Arms/Venomac tune. Please get this book and read it for more info.
No R1 owner should be without this book. Mr Gaylord also covers the
Vortek gas spring (early version).
Robert Hamilton
p.s. If you want to call Tim or Jim for info....please keep it brief or
if not, please also buy something. They are small shops and by
chatting on the phone a lot, you put them behind in their airarm work
for other airarm enthusiasts who are their customers. This is the
right thing to do.
p.p.s. IMHO, EVERY airarm should have at least a std moly tune. Your
airarm will thank you for it and it will be "nicer" to use, though
probably not any more powerful than stock.

Bob,
You are doing Tim and Ivan a big disservice by mixing notes between "
Lazaglide" and "Lazerize", as they are much different!
