subject: REDEFINED KEYS

IU> As I said in my other message UNDEFINE works well, but
IU> it's far from permanent - open another drawing and it's
IU> lost.
You can place some LISP undefine's in the S::STARTUP part of the
ACAD.LSP file...
(defun S::STARTUP ()
  (command ".undefine" "end")
)
...and it will be with you with each load of a drawing.
IU> Hmm, I don't want to use function key redefinition as they
IU> already do a few useful things by default (and I've gotten
IU> used to them being there :-)
Understand. I've started using some keystrokes that use a similar
function as Cadkey, which I also use from time to time...
Alt-B for 'Zoom P
Alt-A for 'Zoom A
Alt-H for 'Zoom H
... to name a few.
At work I've got a Gateway 2000 Anykey keyboard and I can redefine the
keys to be just about any macro (at the keyboard level). There is
also a second set of functions keys (a row along the top like a 101
key kb, and a couple of columns on the left like the 84 key kb). I've
got all the object snaps on the Fkeys on the left.
IU> I may well consider that approach - but in the meantime I'd
IU> still like to know where in Acad (r12) the "end" (as in quit)
You can set up any number of undefines in the acad.lsp file to always
be with you (see above). You can then redefine them to be anything
else (I used have a different 'end' routine that time stamped the
drawing every time it was saved).
IU> secondary importance where I could tailor
IU> mid, end, tan, qua, cen, ins etc to become single hot-keys
I don't think that you can do this _with_ ACAD, but you can get it
done _under_ ACAD. ANSY key redefinitions is 1 way that will work if
you have the DOS version of ACAD (all that you need to implement this
comes w/ DOS!). Macro keyboards (Gateway's Anykey, I think that there
is another brand out there) are another, but that would mean spending
more $. If you've got the windows version of ACAD, then windows has
keyboard macro program...I didn't like the way that it implemented,
though.
IU> Let me hang in with the desire to attack an Acad file first :-)
IU> Thanks for sharing your solutions - I may have to fall back on
IU> them.
No problem. Let me know if you'd like more details. It seems like
AutoDESK is putting more effort into letting us use obscure picture
buttons on screen and less keyboard :(.
