That's what made me do fdisk/mbr which wiped out LiLo, no joy
and Win 98 still refused to acknowledge the hard drive.
I sys'ed the drive as well and that also failed.
Fortunately I had a Linux boot diskette and restored LiLo.
98 looked fine from Knoppix but was utterly scrambled
when I tried to boot to it in any number of ways.
Format c: and reinstall was the only thing that worked
and it took a while and a few trips into Linux for that to take.

Original 98.
Really?
I've FOUR primary partitions, one FAT 32 and three Linux.
It sure was a strange malfunction.
