Hello all:
Here's a couple new CD's I acquired lately:
-Timothy Leary: This is a very interesting recording...from '69. It also has
Jimi Hendrix on bass(!!), Buddy Miles, John Sebastion, and Stephen Stills.
Quite alot of strange tape loops and much rapping by the now-gone Dr. Tim.
Oh yeah, the name of the recording is _YOu can Be Anyone This Time Around_...
-Gong, _Shapeshifter_: I finally picked this up, and liked it alot. You can
easily tell which stuff was recorded in '92, and which was recorded in
'96...the '92 material seems to be less influenced by Daevid Allen, and more
jazz oriented (resembling Gong circa Shamal). It's still good, yet I prefer
the material written by Allen...the opening and ending tracks seem to be
remixes of the intro and conclusion to _Camembert Electrique_. I was
especially surprised that Daevid's voice is still so good, yet this was
evidenced when I saw them on the recent tour. Also included is an extra
track at the end: a live version of Mother Invocation/Om Riff, better known
as "Master Builder" off of you. Get this album!
-Faust, _Faust IV_: This album is very much different than Faust's previous
recordings....more popularly oriented, maybe? There are actual songs with
words and a specific direction. THe tracks "The Sad Skinhead", "Jennifer",
"Krautrock", and "It's a Bit of Pain" stand out.
Ash Ra Tempel, _Join Inn_: _Join Inn_, if you are familiar with ART, is alot
like their first self-titled album, _Staring Rosi_, and _Seven Up_, in that
it includes two long drawn out songs: one being a freak-out rock psych jam,
wiht pounding krautrock drums, and the other being a subtle electronic
atmospheric experience, with spoken word in the backgroung. If you like Ash
Ra, get this.
I also saw a self titled _Nektar_ album, yet when I looked on the back for
the track listing, it listed "King of Twilight" and "Crying in the Dark".
These tracks are also on _A Tab in the Ocean". Is this CD a ..best of? Or
is this actually Nektar's first album?
In Search of Space.....Ian
