| subject: | DNS problem? |
From: "Thees Peereboom"
All,
In my home office I run a network based on a private IPrange. One machine
in that network functions as a proxyserver, running Winproxy 4.0. Winproxy
also functions as the DNS-server for the network.
One of the machines, W2000, suddenly stopped having access to the internet.
Settings are exactly the same as on the other W2000 machines, no DHCP but
all fixed IP. This machine has access to the network allright, can see
other machines, other machines can see that machine, pinging also no
problem, both to as from. VNC, however, doesn't work, claiming a
socket-error ('cannot create socket'). When trying to browse I get a
DNSerror. So looking at those symptoms, it seems clear that there's
something wrong with TCP/IP and probably somewhere around the workings of
DNS.
All machines use the same DNS-address, the same gateway and just one lost
access tot he itnernet. I've checked and rechecked everything, but seem
unable to resolve this and would truly appreciate some guidance.
TIA,
- Thees Peereboom
