I think I can agree this can be done LR>>with 'C' but not with time critical systems like Real-Time LR>>process control where high speeds are crucial and where LR>>memory constraints may exist. Sorta depends on what they mean by "real-time". What's the time resolution? If it's on the order of milliseconds you might consider the use of an ARTIC (A Real Time Interface Coprocessor) card, available from IBM and possibly others. They come with either serial or GPIB interfaces, as I recall, for both Microchannel and ISA buses. It has an 80186 on board and queues messages to/from the equipment so your main processor can do other things (like run the operating system) and check the queue when it has time. I've used these under OS/2 1.3 to monitor process and measurement tools, though we never needed to poll as often as every couple of milliseconds. ___ X SLMR 2.0 X To a cat, "NO!" means "Not while I'm looking". --- Maximus/2 2.01wb* Origin: The Ozone Layer, Williston, VT.
