Commonly $50 or so buy it now, maybe under $30 if you're lucky on a
normal bid basis. You could buy new, but MSRP is around $300. There's a
reason for that. On poor phone lines, nothing compares. That said, you
may be screwed anyway. Some lines just don't support 56K or anything
near. Best ever here was 28.8, with 26.4 normal, and 24.0 or lower
common for windoze machines with internal modems. Less than two blocks
from here, the same Courier can do 31.something reliably. So, distance
can matter in a big way.

And, it could even be your ISP just has too many junk modems. They work
OK for people with good phone lines and so claim it isn't their modems
when really it is. My sister's old ISP was that way. USR external
Sportster wasn't good enough. Courier was MUCH better. Now she has
cable.

Leap, don't look, to wget. Browsers are lousy download tools. Wget
rocks, and works the same regardless what OS you boot. You can set in
the rc file to automatically -c for resume (continue where you left off
due to broken connections or making a necessary phone call).
