I've done this before as a test. Unforunately, ditching PM/WPS removes
one of the best features of OS/2. My reasons for trying to move to OS/2
_include_ the great interface so I'd be unhappy to have to give it up.
You're right that would avoid the problems with long interrupt disable
paths in some of the PM code, though. Maybe a good stop-gap measure.
AK> Another option you might consider is a device-driver.
Actually, a physical device driver (PDD) is mandatory for what I need.
I've already determined I must place the main control loop inside an
interrupt inside a PDD. My main problem at this point is that it still
looks like interrupt latency can be as high as 400 ms under OS/2 and
that puts a real dent in the performance. Running at 1000 Hz with 400
ms jitter in the interrupt timing is probably equivalent to running at
only 250 Hz or so with little jitter. It wouldn't look that way to a
serial communications interrupt so long as on average 1000 Hz is
achieved, but to test equipment expecting better precision it sure
trashes the results...
AK>One of the reasons I think I enjoy OS/2 so much is the way it feels
AK>like putty in the hands :-) !
Unfortunately, when you are "pushing the envelope" of OS/2 performance
that putty begins to get a little too firm :-). Thanks for the
comments, Anton.
