DS>> Gail and I are leaving Sunday Morning (21 Jan) for a coach tour in
DS>> Florida. Starts and ends in Ft. Myers (a bit south of Sarasota),
DS>> stops in or neat the Everglades and then on down to Key West before
DS>> returning to Ft. Myers on Saturday, Jan 27.
DS> We are back and I am slowly getting caught up on the echo. Nice
DS> weather -- high temps in the mid 70s versus 50s here in Maryland.
You were lucky... ;)
DS> We had a number of interesting stops: A 2000 acre truck farm which
DS> grew beans, squash and grape tomatoes; a fruit stand with a demo /
DS> tasting of a variety of tropical fruits (first ever taste of passion
DS> fruit and dragon fruit);
My first taste of dragon fruit was when I was visiting xxCarol in
Virginia Beach... then I found it in our Wegmans, and brought one home
to share with Richard... :)
DS> an orchid farm; and several places with lots of
DS> alligators. The interesting thing about the gators is that when I grew
DS> up in Florida, we never saw a gator. Now they are quite abundant.
Seems to me I'd heard that they were rather abundant in the Everglades
years ago... but if one didn't go there, one wouldn't be so likely to
see them... apparently they've spread out quite a bit... :)
DS>> We will be pretty much out of touch until we return.
DS> And of course, my BBS mailing system went sideways for the entire
DS> period. The BBS ran fine, but my email program which sends out QWK
DS> packets froze because of an error in accepting a new security
DS> certificate (common problem with Eudora). I had to go in and manually
DS> tell the certificant manager to install the updated certificate and
DS> then push out the stacked up QWK packets to users.
Good thing I wasn't depending on that... (G) Of course, the sysop's
gone, the bbs (or some part of it) will have issues... :)
