i have a similar problem .. only diference is that i am using a courier
(v.everything now upgraded to x2) and the modem i am calling is a gvc v.fc
28k8 generic.

same here, but i cannot get past the sending data stage the other end keeps
hanging upat about the 16k of data.

i wish i could say that .. with me the modem at the otherend hangs up and i
have to keep retrying.
recently i made a small breakthrough, i forced my courier to negotiate at
14k4, this has seemed to work. i get a stable circuit and can transfer data.
as i said before this is a strange one .. the copper in our local loops will
support up to 33k6 as will the exchange equipment, but our modems just don't
want to connect and or transfer data at any rate .. well for the moment 14k4
is working.
i have tried another modem on the circuit, my old microcom deskporte fast
plus, it used to work a treat at 28k8 .. nit the courier, and i cannot work
out why.
JR> I have tried Locking BNU and not locking..it makes no

same here .. my telco has checked out the copper in both of our local loops,
funnily enough they use usr couriers (because of the diagnostics) to do line
testing with for those people like myself who have modems and complain about
'poor quality lines'. anyway, the tech that does the line test experiences
the same problem. yet any other of this services clients (they use similar
chaep modems) don't have any problems .. just me and my courier, well and the
telco tester as well.
