In response to a message to Donna on ...
LH>we did uniforms at school I was in 10 years ago. Problem is the students
LH>particularly the older ones figured out ways to create an identity in
LH>uniform. Then you end up making rules to delete those identities and
LH>become frustrated with another fad.
Interesting take on the situation. Thanks for the feedback.
LH>We then went to uniform outfits for teachers
I figured that step wasn't far behind. And it is one of the reasons
that I remain opposed to uniforms for students. Is the next step
uniforms for parents?
LH>A teacher needs to support looking good also.
I agree - too many teachers come to school in jeans and a sweatshirt
or in casual sweatsuits - very unprofessional IMNSHO. I think
teacher colleges need to mandate a course in professionalism - what
it means to be a teacher, how to dress, how to discipline children
within the confines of the law, how to protect one's self from
lawsuits, how to conduct parent conferences, etc. A lot of our new
teachers do not do well with this stuff.
LH>Modelling was not my choice of a career, but we do: both
LH>unwittingly and and consciously.
Absolutely.
