A disk has no physical partition limit. Whatever limit exists is
entirely in software, the ability of any OS to logically subdivide the
whole into logical subdivisions. 4 is simply all that can be defined by

An extended partition is just a fancy name for a special primary
partition that points to another sector that defines what we call a
logical partition, and that may itself point to yet another such sector.
