JS> I just got myself a new motherboard; saved a while to get it. And
JS> what happens when I finally get it working? It has a virus!!! Ha ha.
JS> How fun. [Mr. Moderator, sorry in advance.] THIS SUCKS!!!
JS> Whew. Okay, I'm okay. Actually I've been chasing viruses for quite a
JS> while. I collect all kinds of antivirus software, and usually use a
JS> combination of them. But this time, none of the utilities are working.
JS> Mcafee Viruscan, Frisk's F-Prot, Thunderbyte Antivirus, and even
 JS> ViruSafe hasn't got a clue.
JS> So the combined efforts of at least 4 top antivius companies were
JS> bypassed as if they didn't exist. Whoopee. No, I don't have Norton
JS> Antivirus. I just haven't been able to come up with the $150 that it
JS> costs. And personally, I don't see the point. All the things I've read
JS> about depict it as being not better than any of the other scanners
 JS> I've tried.
JS> So, if anyone out there has a line on a virus scanner/cleaner that is
JS> actually advanced, please let me know.
some points to ponder...
1) a virus is a program, stored on erasable magnetic media - NOT
motherboards...
2) if no anti-virus product detects a virus then there is no reason to
suspect a virus (with the exception of systematic increases in the size
of executable files)...
3) due to stealth viruses it is necessary to perform a verified clean
boot from a known clean floppy (verified clean boot is a clean boot
where the cmos is checked to ensure that the computer knows a: drive
exists and that it is the first drive in the boot priority queue)...
4) avp, and dsav are also top av products and will certainly detect more
than norton when used properly...
... i thought it was the metal bars that separated us from the animals...**
