Your suggestion on Degaussing to cure the color problem
with my 2nd hand 27 " color TV,was correct.It was amazing.
It cured the yellow tint on white and the colors are now
normal.I used an old Realistic Magnetic Tape Eraser,Cat.44-210
from Radio Shack. The instructions specified "Intermittant
Duty-1 min.ON-20 min.OFF".I stood 5 ft.away from the tube,
turned on the degausser, moved SLOWLY till I touched the face,
then went sideways to the edge, then all around the perimeter,
then back to the center then backed away to 5 ft.and turned
the degausser off.During this operation, the colors at the
point of contact changed all over the spectrum.

I checked my Url list and found "REPAIRFAQ.ORG" -Sam
Goldwasser's collection of repair tutorials..
I downloaded and studied a 65Kb text file on TV repair. It had
tips from different users on TV repair.
On degaussing,it said that the magnetism around the tube
can be changed by moving the TV or having magnetic speakers
near it.

After I started using my TV,I got a black screen
occasionally then it became permanent. In the repair file,
one user mentioned cleaning the pins on the picture tube.
I used the brush applicator from an old bottle of DEOXID
on the pins, let dry and reassembled the board on the tube
socket. The picture came back but I could see retrace lines.
I had a set of bits and by trial and error, found a T15 spline
bit ( 13/64 "across the faces) that fitted the control
adjustment. After marking the setting with a toothpick and
white-out,I backed off on the SCREEN control. Now everything
works fine.

  Thanks for the help.
