I think that's right.  Sagan did believe in the possibility of life existing 
elsewhere if for no other reason than the odds are in favor of it.  I'm sure 
if the aliens were present at one time or another, it would not have been for 
the sole purpose of marketing.  They may not wear clothes as we know it.
